The playoffs are under way and we came out on the wrong end of a 15-4 score. We've been playing well to end the season, but unfortunately that didn't carry over to last night's game. I don't think we were nervous or anything like that. Instead, I think we were guilty of trying to do too much. We've had alot of success against Calgary's starters over the last 2 weeks, and I think we might have been overconfident. Sergent pitched a great game for Calgary and we didn't make the adjustment. Hopefully tonight will be different, but our hands will be full going against the probable pitcher of the year Isaac Hess. But it's the playoffs and anything can happen. |

This week started with our league's All Star Break and it couldn't have come at a better time. We just got blown out two games in a row by Victoria, and sometimes a few days off can be a good thing. For me, and 4 teammates, our break consisted of lots of travel and playing in the All Star Game. The break started with a 4:45am shuttle to the Edmonton airport where we hopped on a plane to Phoenix. After a 3 hour layover, we boarded a short flight to Las Vegas, where we rented a car and drove to Saint George, Utah. The league hosted a banquet that first night where I wowed our table with how much I could eat! I'm not real sure that's a good thing though. The next night was the game, where I went 2-5 with a couple RBI's. After a few hours at the Hard Rock Casino in Vegas, we travelled to Victoria, Canada and had most of Wednesday to do as we pleased. With a huge 4 game series here in Victoria, hopefully things turn around and we get back to winning games like we should. |

First, let me apologize for not keeping up to date on my blog. There were several factors why, but I don't feel it appropriate to discuss them on here. But, from this point on, you can expect frequent postings describing my thoughts on the season. Now, for the baseball, the first half ended in a disappointing way. We finished in second place, a few games back of the rival Calgary Vipers. Of course this is not what we had in mind, but we are confident the second half will end with us on top and ready for the playoffs. The team looks really solid right now, with a great mix of hitting and pitching. The second half starts Wednesday, with a 3 game series against the playoff-bound St George Roadrunners. The series was originally suppose to start Tuesday, but rain forced the game to be cancelled. |

In 2 days, I leave for my 8th season of professional baseball. My destination? Edmonton, Alberta Canada. I'm very excited to get started. I was very disappointed in my underachieving 2008 season. Add that motivation to my already-strong competitive nature and you can see why I'm anxious for this season. I feel I have something to prove to everyone, including myself. Because of that, I worked harder than I probably ever have to prepare for this season. I spent overtime in the gym and in the cage, and also ate healthier than in the past. So with all of this, why Edmonton? |

I am currently conducting baseball lessons in the Columbus area. Lessons will be offered to kids ages 8-22. Instruction will focus on the proper mechanics of the professional swing. Instruction can also be given in other areas (defense, pitching, baserunning, bunting) at your request. For the more advanced player, I will go into detail on the finer aspects of the game including training secrets, professional drills, and the proper mental approach to the game. Please email me if you are interested in learning more.

The Hometown Homers Foundation is a charitable fund that I am in the process of setting up. The basic premise is I will raise money through various means and then give away that money to deserving causes. Money will be raised through different events at baseball games, private donations, silent auctions of autographed memorabilia, a golf outing and others yet to be determined. |
